Our Southern Boundary

Our Southern Boundary – over which you can see the village of Patna – is marked by a fence down to the water. To approach, you follow the track from the lane to Carnochan Farm, down to Castle Gardens and walk a short distance to the right through the pasture to the boundary and the first pool: Upper Coo Hole. You may only fish from the Home Bank (left as you look downstream).

The Southern Boundary

Upper Coo Hole

Not so many members have fished the Upper Coo Hole. The water can be slow moving and with banks of weed and…it is deep. Perhaps a salmon might feel safe here!

Upper Coo Pool

Coo Hole

Like Upper Coo Hole, this pool is slow and deep. Worth a look before you follow the river round to Auld Brig Pool.

Lower Coo

Auld Brig Pool

A long and varied pool, capable of producing fish at all water heights. In a moderate to large water, concentrate on the back-end of the pool. In lower water there are productive lies just above and at old bridge towards the right hand bank.

Upper Squires Pool

It needs a good head of fish in the river to bring this pool into the equation, but it’s always worth a quick fish-through on your way downstream!

Lower Squires Pool

This pool doesn’t look much more than a narrow and fairly fast stream, but it consistently holds fish, especially at its tail in higher water.

Whisky Hole

Not an easy pool to fish, with very soft margins, but always worth a cast.

As the pool begins to turn, there are lies just off the main current on both sides.

Also concentrate on the area off the stones on the left bank.

Seggans

The key to fishing this pool is to keep low, even wade down the edge (it’s not deep until you reach the first bush!) The best chances are between the first and second bushes.

The Wheel

A wonderful corner pool with smooth tail end, with a chance of a fish at almost any height. In a big water, concentrate on the final 30 yards, where you may see fish following the fly – keep it moving!

Island Run

Give it a few casts, or even fish it through and into the Pump House.

Pump House

This pool always looks fishy, but does not often deliver! If there are fish about, it’s probably going to be towards the tail.

Polnessan Stream

You’ll need a reasonable head of fish in the river to give this stream a chance! A typical resting spot for a summer grilse……..

Polnessan Pool

A great pool, with chances all the way through. The main taking spots are in the heart of the pool, and, if fish are running, in the neck.
