Davie McPhail is a ‘Friend of the River’ and is internationally renowned for his fishing and fly-tying videos on YouTube. He has over 121,000 subscribers to his channel and has posted more than 1300 videos, demonstrating the fly-tyers art and his skill and experience at fishing Ayrshire rivers for trout and salmon.
Davie has fished as a guest on a number of occasions, most recently joining David Allfrey for a day on the river in mid-June. Davie caught a number of nice trout and then, as the pair were chatting before lunch by Wilson’s a lovely fresh salmon leapt just a few yards away in the middle of the pool. In response, Davie started to fish the pool – with a beautiful Purple Cascade – and after a few casts landed a splendid 1.5lb brown trout.
After a few more casts, at exactly the same point in the pool where David had landed a nice fish only a few days earlier, Davie hooked a lovely 13lb cock fish. The whole thing was captured on his GoPro camera and that evening he posted the video on YouTube. So far it has been viewed 27,000 times! Enjoy the video!
