We have had 28 salmon and grilse for August, the highest total since 2014, which is very encouraging.

We would undoubtedly have had quite a few more if the river had been fishable more often; we lost at least six days to high water, and it was marginal on several more. Additionally, the river was again fished fairly lightly for much of the month. There were excellent runs of grilse and still a few larger fish around. A good number of fish were also lost, reflecting both the high water and the tendency of grilse to ‘nip’ at the tail of the fly or lure and therefore not be hooked securely.

As we move into September, the river is settling down after yet another spate, but again remains lightly fished……please do try to take advantage of the prevailing conditions!
