From the A713 (between Castle Douglas and Ayr), turn west in the centre of the village of Patna to cross the River Doon – turning right if coming from Ayr, or left if coming from Castle Douglas.

Follow Main Street towards Dalvennan and Kirkmichael until the road rises and curves left towards the treeline. At the War Memorial, take the right turn onto the side road between two cemeteries.

Continue through a few gentle bends in the wood. As the road dips, you’ll have light woodland, hazel coppice, and rough pasture on your left. Emerging from the trees, look right for an eastward view down to the river and the Top ‘A’ Beat.

A little further on, you’ll pass a small grassy lay-by on the left – a convenient parking spot for fishing the Top ‘A’ Beat. Continue to a junction: right to Carnochan Farm, left to Shankston Farm. Turn right and follow the road downhill to Carnochan Farm.

Pass through the farmyard, keeping the farmhouse on your left, and continue to a five-barred gate leading into a meadow. Livestock may be present, so please shut the gate securely after passing through.

Follow the track across the field for approximately 500 metres, with the river on your right, until you reach our Cabin. It is set in the western corner of the field within its own gated enclosure.
