After the very warm and at times hot spell in May and June, more ‘seasonal’ conditions returned in July. A few fish were seen and one fresh salmon was caught by Richard Bellamy. In addition, we had a couple of sea trout. Things really came to life at the beginning of August, with 11 salmon caught, plus 3 more sea trout in 4 days following the first big spate of the summer. Almost all were fresh fish, up to 15lb. It was very encouraging to see a decent run of salmon as well as a fair number of sea trout.
This was against a background of a quiet couple of weeks with little fishing effort, a couple of the Committee fished on separate occasions on 3 days for part of the day only. It was encouraging to see a good head of fish running into the beat. It appears that supply of salmon fishing is exceeding demand at present for a number of reasons.
A reminder that when you are fishing please remember to send a note of fish caught, and fishing effort by emailing to You may also wish to record your activity in the logbook in the Cabin. A note is attached with details of what is needed and why. This is summarised below:

The beat is looking good following excellent work by Colin Farrell since early May. The river and its banks are in good shape with the Top Beat having seen a considerable improvement on recent years in terms of removal of rubbish and broken walkways.
Work continues in developing our new website which is now being populated with photos and text. A booking portal is also being developed and tested at present. Once things are a bit more advanced, we will send round the link to it. Davie McPhail, the well-known local fly tyer and angler spent a day on the water and a video of his day can be seen here:
